Question : New Railway Lines

(a) the details of the new railway lines proposed in the last Budget;

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF STARRED QUESTION NO.124 BY SHRI KAPIL MORESHWAR PATIL TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 10.02.2021 REGARDING NEW RAILWAY LINES

(a) & (b): During 2014-20, 58 numbers of New Line projects totalling 4,626 Km and costing `81,639 crore have been included in Budget subject to requisite approvals.

Presently, 189 New Line projects totaling 21,343 km length and costing `4,04,853 crore are in different stages of planning/approval/execution.

Considering the huge shelf of ongoing New Line projects, focus of Ministry of Railways is to complete the existing New Line projects. During 2014-20, 3395 km New Line projects have been commissioned. During 2020-21, one Umbrella Work of New Line costing `10,000 crore was included in Budget against which one project of Mahisasan (India) to Zero point (Bangladesh) has been sanctioned at a cost of `38.88 crore.

(c): Completion of Railway projects depend on many factors such as land acquisition, statutory clearances from various authorities, shifting of utilities, law and order situation in the project area and other factors beyond the control of Ministry of Railways.
