Question : EAST COAST ROAD PROJECT



(a) whether the Government propose to sanction Rs. 1200 crore for the East Coast Road Project upto Kanyakumari at the earliest to expedite this most important road work in the South;

(b) if so, the details in this regard; and

(c) the reasons for the inordinate delay to complete the remaining portions being traversed via Tuticorin to reach Cape Comorin?

(a) : No. Sir. This Ministry is primarily responsible for development & maintenance of National Highways (NH) only and all other roads fall within the purview of the respective State Government. Since the East Coast Road does not form part of N.H. network, it falls within the purview of State Government of Tamil Nadu.
