Question : ORDERS ON STEEL QUALITY CONTROL



(a) whether steel plants and industry have imp- lemented the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Orders, 2012;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the names of the plants which have created infrastructure in accordance with the said orders so far along with the expenditure incurred by them; and

(d) the names of the plants in which infrastru- cture in accordance with said order are yet to be completed along with the time by which it is likely to be completed?

(a)to(d): The Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Orders, 2012 have been implemented for 15 steel products, having direct bearing on safety and security of human beings and infrastructure. As per the laid down procedure, all the steel production units are required to have requisite infrastructure so as to obtain license from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in order to make them eligible to use the Standard Marks of BIS in their products. The data on plant-wise status of requisite infrastructure and investment thereof is not main- tained by the Government. However, product & standard wise number of licenses granted by BIS, who have the requisite infrastructure, is annexed.
