(a) whether a number of drug trafficking cases have been detected recently in Delhi by the
Delhi Police/custom personnel;
(b) if so, the number of cases detected and drugs seized during 1999 and 2000 so far; and
(c) the details of effective preventive measures being taken by the Government to check this
menace ?

(a) &(b) Yes, Sir. The details are indicated in the attached statement.
(c) The measures taken by the Central Government to put an effective check on drug
trafficking include maintenance of the utmost vigilance by the enforcement agencies;
imparting training to enforcement staff to improve their effectiveness; strict watch
on the activities of drug smugglers and peddlers as also on criminals released from jail;
creation of a special Narcotics Cell by Customs Department at Indira Gandhi International
Airport and creation of a Narcotics Cell in Delhi Police.
