Question : Revamping of Railway Stations

(a) whether the Government has any proposal to revamp all the Railway Stations of Aspirational Districts in the near future;

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and

(c) the time-frame set for the completion of these projects in various States and UTs including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and North-Eastern States?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF STARRED QUESTION NO.166 BY SHRI VIJAY KUMAR DUBEY AND SHRI REBATI TRIPURA TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 03.07.2019 REGARDING REVAMPING OF RAILWAY STATIONS

(a) & (b): Out of 115 aspirational districts, so far 87 districts have been connected with Indian Railways network.
Works for upgradation have been taken up at Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Rajnandgaon (Chattisgarh) and Haridwar (Uttarakhand), which falls under aspirational districts. At Visakhapatnam station, waiting hall, retiring room and platform surfaces have been renovated and modular vending kiosks have been provided at all platforms. At Ranchi station, works for improvement in station building facade with modern lighting, circulating area and parking area have been completed. Lifts and escalators have been provided at all platforms. Washable apron have also been provided and Foot over bridge has been extended towards 2nd entry of station. At Rajnandgaon station, works for improvement of station approach road, waiting hall, retiring rooms, platform surfaces including Platform shelters have been completed. At Haridwar station, works for improvement in circulating area, waiting hall, platform surfaces and platform shelters have been completed and three (3) escalators & two (2) lifts have been provided.
Besides this, Ministry of Railways is also undertaking techno-economic feasibility studies at two stations viz. Bokaro and Ranchi in Aspirational districts. The cost of such station redevelopment projects are to be met by leveraging commercial potential of land and air space in and around the stations.
(c): Station redevelopment program is first of its kind and complex in nature and requires detailed techno-financial feasibility studies and various statutory clearances from local bodies etc. Therefore, no time-frame can be indicated at this stage.
