Question : Average OSBD of Cargo

(a) whether there had been a decrease in average Output per Ship Berth day (OSBD);

(b) whether the Government has taken any steps for increasing average OSBD and if so, the details thereof; and

(c) whether the Government has developed a road map for improving the average OSBD to enable our country to become a cargo hub for nearby countries and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

Answer given by the minister

(a) Yes Sir. There had been decrease in the Average Output Per Ship Berthday in the year 2020-21 due to impact of Covid-19.

(b)&(c) Improvement in Average Output per Ship Berthday at Major Ports is an ongoing process. Port Projects such as installation of state-of-the-art equipment, mechanisation of cargo handling system, etc. help in increasing the Average Output Per Ship Berthday at Major ports. With the objective of propelling India to the forefront of the Global Maritime Sector, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has formulated Maritime India Vision 2030 (MIV 2030), a blueprint to ensure coordinated and accelerated growth of India’s maritime sector in the next decade.
