Question : CHALLAN BY TRAFFIC POLICE



(a) the number of challans issued by the Delhi Traffic Police in Delhi for drunken driving during each of the last three years and the current year;

(b) the amount realised from erring/drunken drivers; and

(c) the action proposed to be taken to check such incidents in future?

(a): The number of challans issued by the Delhi Traffic Police in Delhi for drunken driving during last three years 2008, 2009 and 2010 and the current year(upo 31.07.2011) are as follows:

(b): All challans issued by the Delhi Traffic Police for drunken driving are sent to Courts, which decide the punishment for violation in terms of fine or imprisonment or both.

(c): Regular checks are undertaken by Delhi Traffic Police near hotels, bars, pub joints etc. and violators are prosecuted under Section 185 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. General public is educated in respect of drunken driving through distribution of road safety literature, press advertisements, FM radio announcements etc. Besides, the Delhi Traffic Police recommends such cases to Transport Department, GNCT of Delhi for disqualification/revocation of driving licence.
