Question : Expenditure on Power by DMRC

Will the Minister of URBAN DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state :

(a) the details of expenditure incurred by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC) on power/electricity purchase to operate the metro services during the last three years;

(b) the details of increase in electricity tariff as compared to electricity tariffs of 2009;

(c) the details of loss suffered by the DMRC as a result of the said increase in electricity tariff;

(d) whether the Government proposes to increase the metro fare to compensate the said loss; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT

(a): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC) has informed that they have spent Rs. 1,188.27 crores from 01st April, 2012 to 31st March, 2015 on electricity purchase to operate metro services. The details of expenditure during the last three years are as under:

(b): DMRC has furnished following details of increase in electricity tariff:

(i) 124% increase in electricity tariff since April, 2009 in the National Capital Territory of Delhi;

(ii) 67% increase in electricity tariff since September, 2009 in the State of Uttar Pradesh; and

(iii) 59% increase in electricity tariff since July, 2010 in the State of Haryana.

(c): DMRC has informed that due to increase in tariff since 1st April, 2009, they had paid Rs. 799 crores more than that would have been paid at the rate of electricity tariff as on 1st April, 2009.

(d)&(e): Based on the request of DMRC, Ministry of Urban Development has forwarded a proposal for constitution of 4th Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) for recommending fares for Delhi Metro network for the approval of Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
