Question : Production of Solar Energy

(a) whether the use of solar power has increased across the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the total number of people dependent on solar power in the country, State-wise;
(c) whether the Government proposes to increase the solar energy production in the country;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the details of the solar panels production companies in the country along with the details of its import?

(a)&(b) The solar power installed capacity in the country has increased from 2631.9 MW (as on 31.03.2014) to 50777.68 MW (as on 28.02.2022). The power generated from solar projects is fed into the grid for the benefit of the people of the country. Sate-wise details of cumulative solar power capacity installed in the country are given in Annexure-I.

(c)&(d) In line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s announcement at the CoP26, the Government is committed to achieving 500 GW of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by the year 2030.

(e)The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) issues an approved list of Solar PV module manufacturers and models. The details of domestic Solar PV module manufacturing facilities as per the latest list published on 04.03.2022 are given at Annexure-II. As per report from Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCI&S), the country-wise details of imports of solar units or its components to the country during last three years and the current year are given in Annexure-III.
