Question : Gramin Parivahan Yojana

(a) whether the Union Government proposes to launch a new scheme to provide commercial passenger vehicles in rural areas to revitalize the transport system in all the villages across the country;

(b) if so, the details of the proposed new scheme and the time by which the said scheme is to be launched;

(c) whether the said scheme would be launched with cooperation of State Governments/UTs or with villages/ Panchayats directly and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the target fixed for providing vehicles to rural areas during the next two years?

(a) to (d): In order to leverage the rural road network created in the Country, Ministry is contemplating a new scheme i.e. Pradhan Mantri Gram ParivahanYojana (PMGPY) to provide safe, efficient and affordable transport services to the villagers for enhancing access to economic and social opportunities. The details of the proposed Pradhan Mantri Gram ParivahanYojana (PMGPY) are being worked out.
