Question : SERVING OF LIQUOR IN COMMUNITY CENTRES



(a) whether it is a fact that liquor is prohibited in Government owned community centres;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Government plan to review its decision in view of the current liberalized liquor policy;

(d) if not, the reasons therefor;

(e) whether it is also a fact that such restrictions are resulting in low-booking and thus causing financial loss to exchequer; and

(f) if so, the measures proposed to be taken to increase the use of these community centres for social functions?

(a): Serving and consumption of liquor is not permitted in Community Centres run by the Grih Kalyan Kendra.

(b) to (d): Grih Kalyan Kendra is a welfare organization with a strong orientation for schemes aimed at upliftment of the conditions of needy families of Central Government servants, their dependent families and children. Consumption of liquor in its premises is not considered to be compatible with its objectives.

(e): No, Sir. There has been increase in the number of bookings leading to increase in income from hiring of community centres for marriages etc.

(f): Does not arise.
