Question : Death of Seamen

(a) whether seventy seamen from India were reportedly struck and some of them believed to have lost their lives in Yemen recently;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether any kind of assistance financial or otherwise has been provided by the Government to the affected seamen and their families;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a)&(b): Yes, Madam. 5 sailing vessels with 69 Indian crew had sailed out of Khokha Port on 16.09.2015 and were intercepted by Saudi led Navy and got them released on 17.09.2015. Further, other two sailing vessels were reported to have been destroyed at the port of Khokha. These two vessels had a total of 20 Indian crew, of which, 13 were reportedly evacuated from Hudaida to Djibouti by the Ministry of External Affairs, while 4 were dead and 3 were reported missing.
