Question : CBCS by University of Delhi

(a) whether the Government has taken note that the results of Maths and Science subjects
declared recently under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) by University of
Delhi has revealed the shortcomings of evaluation method and degraded the actual
performance of students;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;
(c) whether the Government has conducted any investigation in this regard, if so, the details
thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
(d) whether the Government has noticed that students have suffered a lot; and
(e) if so, the steps taken by the Government in the direction of compensating the loss caused to
the students prior to current semester''s examination and towards swapping the CBCs system?

(a) to (e): The University of Delhi has reported that the results for the First Semester
examinations for the C.B.C.S. have been declared as per the guidelines recommended by the
University Grants Commission (U.G.C) and the Scheme of Examination approved by the
Executive Council of the University vide its Resolution No.55 dated 14th July, 2015. The
University has reported that this is the first result under the C.B.C.S. and representations have
been received from the students of some courses, specifically in the high scoring courses under
the science stream like physics and mathematics. A Committee has already been constituted by
the University to oversee the issues related to C.B.C.S and to suggest possible steps to be taken
for removal of shortcomings, if any, before the declaration of the result of the second semester,
2016. It is pertinent to mention here that all Central Universities, including Delhi University, are
autonomous bodies which are governed by their own Acts, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations
made thereunder and all academic and administrative decisions are taken by their competent
authorities like Academic Council and Executive Council.
