Question : ADOPT A MONUMENT SCHEME



(a) whether the Government has assigned certain heritage sites to Corporate Houses for renovation and maintenance under `Adopt a Monument` scheme;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the extent to which this scheme has been successful;

(d) whether the Government also proposes to hand over archaeological buildings to corporates under this scheme; and

(e) if so, the details thereof ?

(a),(b)&(c) Although, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) does not have a scheme called “Adopt a Monument”, it encourages Public Private Partnership (PPP) for conservation, restoration and environmental development of protected monuments and sites under the aegis of National Culture Fund (NCF), a Trust under the aegis of Ministry of Culture. A few Corporate Houses have come forward for the maintenance and development of monuments declared as of national importance. The details are at Annexure –I. Such partnership initiatives have been, broadly, able to meet the objectives.

(d) No, Sir. There is no proposal to hand over the protected monument or site to Corporates under the partnership initiatives.
