(a) & (b): The University Grants Commission Act of 1956 allows
private sector participation in higher education through the
deemed university route. The terms and conditions of such
participation are specified in the guidelines of UGC on the
subject.
(c): During 1999-2000 and 2000-01, nine such institutions were
conferred the status of `Deemed to be University`.
