Question : Swachh Iconic Place

(a) Whether the Ministry has selected several tourist sites for Swachh
Tourist destinations under Phase Four of Swachh Iconic place for
promoting tourism in the country and if so, the details thereof along with
the number of such destinations selected;

(b) Whether the Ministry of Jal Shakti would be taking the help of other
ministries like Tourism and Urban Development for the development of these
sites and if so, the details thereof; and

(c) Whether this development of tourist destinations would help in
generating employment for the local people and if so, the details thereof?

(a) Under Swachh Bharat (Clean India) Mission, in phase IV of Swachh Iconic Places, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti has selected the following 12 sites :

(b) The objective of Swachh Iconic Places is to achieve a distinctly higher level of Sanitation/Cleanliness at these places, especially on the peripheries and in approach areas. This is being coordinated by Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti in collaboration with Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture, State/UT Govt., Municipal and local agencies. Also, Ministry of Power, Ministry of Steel, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ministry of Coal, Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Corporate Affairs is being asked for additional support from their concerned Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Private companies through CSR funds.

State Govt. being the key stakeholder will be appointing a Nodal person for the above 12 no. sites for coordination and execution. This officer of sufficient seniority would coordinate with various Departments/Ministries and Stakeholders, Trust/Shrine/Management Board, supporting PSUs etc. Ministries would be asked to support the selected sites from their ongoing programme to maintain highest standard of cleanliness.

(c) As the objective of Swachh Iconic places is to achieve a distinctly higher level of Sanitation/Cleanliness at these places, especially on the peripheries and in approach areas, this will be helpful in generating employment for the local people.
