Question : HEADQUARTERS OF IRDA

(a) whether the Government have taken any decision regarding the location where the Headquarters of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority would be set up;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether any representations have been received by the Union Government in this regard particularly from Maharashtra;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) whether the Union Government have taken into account the various issues relating to insurance before taking any final decision; and

(f) if so, the details thereof and if not., the reasons therefor?

a) to (f) : Yes, Sir. Government of India have received requests from State Governments of Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh for locating the Headquarter of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) in their States. Taking into consideration all the facts mentioned in these requests, a decision has been taken to locate the Headquarter of IRDA at Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh).
