Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE FOR COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY(JYOTIRADITYA M. SCINDIA)

(a): The Government has approved a Scheme for providing support for establishing 100,000 broadband, Internet enabled, Common Service Centres (CSCs) in rural areas of the country. The Scheme has been approved at a total cost of Rs. 5742 crores over 4 years, of which the Government of India is estimated to contribute Rs. 856 crore and the State Governments Rs. 793 crores. The balance resources would be mobilized from the private sector.

(b): The Scheme is being implemented in a Public Private Partnership. These Centres would be opened in the ratio of 1CSC for every 6 Census villages in a State. These Centres would provide a mix of Government and private Services in rural areas. The Centres once established would provide better communication facilities to citizens in rural areas.

(c): The details of the Progress made in the implementation of the Scheme may be seen at Annexure.

(d): There is no proposal for setting up of CSC`s in every village & hence no date for the same can be provided.
