Question : PACE OF PROVIDING EMPLOYMENT



(a) whether the pace of providing employment in the country is slow;

(b) if so, the details in this regard alongwith the reasons therefor;

(c) whether workers have been affected due to the Globalisation;

(d) if so, the details in this regard; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government to safeguard the interests of the workers?

a) & b) As per the survey conducted by National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) during 1993-94 and 1999-2000, the average annual growth rate of employment during the period 1994-2000 in the country was of the order of 0.98% as per Usual Principal and Subsidiary Status (UPSS) approach.

c), d) & e) Due to Globalisation and Economic liberalisation some employment opportunities in the older type of enterprises might have been reduced due to declining efficiency, but at the same time new employment opportunities are created in a number of new areas such as Information Technologies, Tourism, Financial Services, etc.
