Question : Personnel Leaving Defence Services

(a) whether the defence personnel leaving defence services after twenty years of service is on the rise;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the reasons therefor; and

(c) the corrective measures taken by the Government in this regard?

IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE

(a) There is no rise in the number of defence personnel leaving defence services after twenty years of service except for Sailors in Navy.

(b) The number of sailors leaving Navy after initial engagement of 15/20 years is on rise. This is largely due to availability of alternate vocations.

(c) The measures taken to address the issue in Navy include extension of maximum permissible service by two years for all sailors in the Navy, implementation of Modified Assured Career Progression Scheme for sailors, introduction of the Honorary rank of Chief Petty Officers and liberalised leave policy.
