(a) the total financial assistance provided by the Centre to States for Fish industries during the last three years, State-wise, year-wise;
(b) whether India`s share of fish and fish products in the world market is declining very fast; and
(c) if so, the steps taken by the Government to boost the production of fish and fish products in the country so that this downsliding is arrested immediately?

(a) Details of financial assistance provided by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying to States for promoting fisheries during the last three years are furnished at Annexure.
(b) & (c) The export of marine products is looked after by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA). According to them the share of India`s export to the world export was 0.81% during 1998 compared to .76% during 1999 in terms of quantity. In terms of value, the share of India`s export is 2.28% to the world export during 1998 compared to 2.10% during 1999. The Government is providing Central assistance to various Plan Schemes to ensure that the overall strategy to increase fish production is achived.
