(a) the time by which the National Family Health Survey being conducted and scheduled to be completed by the agency engaged for conducting this survey;

(b) whether Calcutta and other metropolitans are likely to receive special focus in this survey; and

(a) The National Family Health Survey (second round) has been conducted in all the 26 States except in the state of Tripura in the country during 1998-99. International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai is the nodal agency for this survey. The survey in Tripura could not be conducted due to disturbed situation. The preliminary reports for 16 States have been brought out. The preliminary estimates of important indicators at all India level will be available by end of May, 2000 and the final report is expected to be published by the end of this year. The final State level reports are under preparation and expected to be published by the end of the year 2001.

(b)&(c) Special focus is placed on four metropolitan cities, namely, Mumbai, Calcutta, Delhi and Chennai with higher sample size. Separate estimates will be available for these cities in the final State level reports in respect of demographic, social and health parameters. In respect of Mumbai, estimates of these parameters for slum areas will also be prepared.
