Question : Production of Lacquerware


(a) whether the Government is taking any steps for setting up of Common Facility Centres with modern machinery for use by artisans in the production of lacquerware in the country including at Channapatna in Karnataka;

(b) if so, the status of the work in this regard;

(c) the programmes proposed to be conducted at the Common Facility Centres for the use of artisans;

(d) whether the Government is taking steps to allocate adequate funds for the said purpose; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (e): Yes Madam, under Integrated Development & Promotion of Handicrafts Project (IDPH) for Karnataka one Common Facility Centre (CFC) with modern machinery in lacquerware craft at Channapatna in Karnataka state has been sanctioned to Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. (KSHDC), Bangalore. The land for the setting up of CFC has already been identified and the CFC is likely to be functional by June, 2019.

The CFC will be used for providing training on use of modern technique and machines for artisans and mass production. It will ensure economy of scale, price competitiveness, quality control, application of new design & technology on continuous basis and scope of product diversification.

An amount of Rs.60.00 lakhs has been sanctioned during 2016-17 to KSHDC Ltd. Bangalore for setting up of CFC.
