Question : FISCAL INCENTIVES



(a) whether the Government have announced a host of fiscal incentives for the small scale industries;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the excise exemption limit has also been raised; and

(d) the main objectives behind granting these incentives to the SSI sector?

(a) to (c): Yes, Sir. The Government have announced on 30th August, 2000 some fiscal incentives for the small scale industries as part of its Comprehensive Policy Package for the SSI. These incentives include raising the SSI excise exemption limit from Rs. 50 lakhs to Rs. 1 core, reducing the basic customs duty to 15% on pile fabric for the manufacture of toys and on parts of electronic security systems for the manufacture of electronic security system and reducing the basic customs duty to 5% on parts of electronic calculator for the manufacture of calculators and on parts of electronic toys for manufacture of toys and on parts of video games for manufacture of video games.

(d): These incentives will strengthen the SSI Sector by improving its competitiveness domestically and globally.
