Question : RAKSHA KAVACH FOR THE SAFETY OF THE PASSENGERS



(a) whether the Government are contemplating to introduce `Raksha Kavach` for the safety of the passengers;

(a) if so, whether the Government have made any progress in this regard so far; and

(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(b) : Yes, Sir.

(b)&(c): It is proposed to provide Raksha Kavach (Anti Collision Device- ACD ) on Indian Railways progressively. To start with, provision of ACD on about 1800 route kms (RKms) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), have been taken up. ACD survey works are also in progress on 1641 RKms of section on Southern and South Central Railway. ACD survey on additional 10,000 RKms, to cover selected routes on Indian Railways, have also been sanctioned. Further work of provision of ACD on about 1750 RKms of section on Southern, South Central and Northern Railways has also been sanctioned, which will be taken up after successful completion of work on NFR.
