Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF POWER ( SHRIMATI JAYAWANTI MEHTA )

(a) to (e) : Farakka Super thermal Power Station of 1600 MW capacity is fully under operation. Farakka Super Thermal Power Station Stage-III (1x500 MW) could not be taken up due to non-availability of permission from the concerned authorities for release of water from Farakka barrage. As there is no other viable source of water available, proposal for the expansion of Farakka could not be revived.

In the Eastern Region, National Thermal Power Corporation is presently implementing Talcher STPP Stage-II (2000 MW) in Orissa. In addition, NTPC plans to take up Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) Stage-II and Barh STPP in Bihar and North Karanpura STPP in Jharkhand.
