Question : Revival of Closed Mines

(a) the number of mines in the country, State/UT-wise including Odisha;
(b) the number of sick and closed mines in the country including those in Odisha along with the number of affected workers, State/UT-wise;
(c) whether the Government proposes to revive some of the closed/sick mines in the country particularly in Odisha; and
(d) if so, the details thereof along with the steps taken/proposed to be taken for revival of the said mines and rehabilitation of the affected workers particularly in Odisha?

(a) and (b): State-wise details of the number of mines in the country of minerals covered under the Mineral Conservation and Development Rules, 1988 is given in the annexure. State-wise details of the number of non-working mines are also given in the annexure.

There is no separate classification of mines as sick mines, and the number of closed mines and affected workers is not centrally maintained.

(c) and (d): Does not arise in view of answer to (a) and (b) above.
