Statement referred to in parts (a) to (e) of Lok Sabha Starred Question No. 285 due for reply on 13.03.2020 regarding ‘Pollution by Industries’ by SHRI DHAIRYASHEEL SAMBHAJIRAO MANE and DR. SUJAY RADHAKRISHNA VIKHE PATIL, Hon''ble Members of Parliament
(a) to (e) The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has carried out inspection for verification of compliance to the stipulated norms of 700 industries falling under the 17- category of highly polluting industries during the period 01.04.2016 to 04.03.2020.
CPCB has reported that out of the 700 industries inspected, 342 industries were found non-complying. Under provisions of Section 5 of Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, show-cause notices/ technical directions to 159 units and closure directions to 181 units were issued for non-compliance.
One direction each to Assam and Maharashtra State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) was issued under Section 18(1)(b) of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
Out of the 342 units found non-complying during inspection, 293 units are complying as on date. Directions/ notices issued for the remaining 49 non-complying units are still in force. State-wise and sector-wise status is given at Annexure-I and Annexure-II respectively.
