Question : ALTERNATIVE MEANS OF LIVELIHOOD



(a) the steps taken or proposed to be taken by the Government for making alternative arrangements for the livelihood of the tribal dwelling in depleting forest areas;

(b) whether Government are aware that some of the tribal communities are surviving on trees and plants and grass in the forest areas;

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the steps taken by the government for their upliftment?

(a) to (d) National Afforestation & Eco Development Board of Ministry of Environment & Forests is implementing National Afforestation Programme (NAP) Scheme for regeneration of degraded forests and adjoining areas of the country with peoples participation. The scheme is being implemented through a decentralized mechanism of Forest Development Agencies (FDAs) at village level. This programme gives livelihood opportunities to all Joint Forest Management Committee (JMFC) members and other people living in and around forests including tribals where this programme is implemented.
