Question : TEXTILE MACHINE INDUSTRY



(a) the present status of Textile Machine Industry in India;

(b) whether the Government has any scheme for the growth of Textile Machine Industry in India;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government has taken any initiative to improve Research and Development in this sector; and

(a): There are 1446 units making Textile Machinery in India during 2010-11 and their production was Rs. 6,150crore. The Industry employs 95,000 people directly. The major Machinery being produced include weaving machine, spinning machine, winding machine, processing machine, synthetic fiber machine, textile testing instrument etc.

(b): No, Madam.

(c): Does not arise.

(d) & (e): Through a plan scheme titled “Technology Development Plan” administered by Ministry of Science and Technology, Indian Industry is supported for undertaking Research and Development projects for indigenous development of technology/instruments which include textile instruments also.
