(c) the time by which the above work is likely to be started?

Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF FINANCE; MINISTER OF CORPORATE AFFAIRS; AND MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING (SHRI ARUN JAITLEY)

(a) to (c) Prasar Bharati has informed that the project for establishment of 10KW VHF High Power Transmitter (HPT) at Kolhapur in Maharashtra was approved as part of 10th Plan schemes. However, in a meeting held in December 2003 for finalization of Annual Plan 2004-05, Planning Commission directed that no new transmitter projects need to be set up, including those projects which had been approved, as analogue TV transmission is out of vogue.
In view of multi channel TV coverage having been provided in the entire country through Doordarshan’s free to air DTH service, setting up of new transmitters is not envisaged except for a few in border areas. It is possible to receive DTH signals anywhere in the country, including Kolhapur, with the help of small sized dish receiving unit.
