(a) to (e): A Statement is laid on the Table of the House.
STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) to (e) OF THE STARRED QUESTION NUMBER 427 DUE FOR ANSWER ON 23.12.2014 IN THE LOK SABHA.
(a): A statement showing the state-wise number of sugar mills in the cooperative, private and public sectors operated during the sugar season 2013-14 (October - September) in the country is Annexed.
(b): The Government no longer determines the unit cost of production of sugar.
(c) & (d): No Madam. The Government has not received any request from the State Governments for providing assistance for up-gradation/ modernization of sugar mills in the co-operative sector. The mills route their proposal for assistance for cane development only through the State Governments; while requests for assistance in respect of upgradation/modernization, setting up co-generation and ethanol capacities are submitted directly by the mills.
(e) The Government has provided assistance through loans from Sugar Development Fund at concessional rate of interest to the cooperative sugar mill for their development. The details of assistance, manner of utilization and success therein for the last three years and the current year (upto 15.12.2014) are as under:-
