Question : Retrenchment of Anganwadi Workers

(a) whether the Government has retrenched Anganwadi workers on the grounds of period of time served and educational qualification;
(b) if so, the details of employees holding 10th, 12th and other degrees;
(c) whether the Government proposes to provide additional benefit to Anganwadi employees working for more than 10 years, if so, the details thereof; and
(d) whether the Government proposes to provide post retirement benefits to Anganwadi employees/workers and if so, the details thereof?

(a): Anganwadi Services is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme and the administration, management and implementation of the Scheme including recruitment of Anganwadi Workers (AWWs)/ Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs) is done by the concerned State Government/ UT Administration. Under the Anganwadi Services minimum qualification for engagement as Anganwadi Worker and Anganwadi Helper is Matriculation and age limit is 18-35 years. As per the extant guidelines, the age of dis-engagement of AWWs/AWHs has been fixed at the maximum of 65 years. However, State Governments/UT Adminisrations are free to fix lower age for their dis-engagement.

(b): Details of qualification possessed by above funnctionaries are not maintained by this Ministry.

(c): There is no such proposal under consideration. However, this Ministry has issued revised guidelines for filling up of 50% of vacancies in the posts of Supervisors from amongst Anganwadi Workers with ten years’ service as AWWs and possessing requisite qualifications.
