Question : RSS



(a) the grounds which led to the imposition of ban on RSS and when;

(b) whether the Government are considering to allow RSS Swayamsevaks to participate in RSS activities;

(c) if not, the activities which are prejudicial to the integrity of the sovereignty of India;

(d) whether it is a fact that during various natural calamities, various State Governments and the Central Government had taken the help of the RSS;

(e) whether it is also true that RSS is a socio-cultural organisation;

(f) if so, the reasons for not allowing Government servants to participate in the RSS activities; and (g) whether Government propose to set up a judicial commission to sort out the matter once for all that none could derive political advantage out of it ?

(a): The organisation was banned on three occasions under the provisions of Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1908 on 4th February, 1948, Defence and Internal Security of India Rules on 7th July 1975 and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act,1967, On 10th December,1992.

(b): In the case of any lawful organisation, members are free to participate in the activities.

(c): Does not arise.

(d): Several organisations including RSS have been providing voluntary services in various parts of the country during natural calamities.

(e)&(f): As per the information provided by the Election Commission of India, the RSS has neither applied for registration as a political party nor is it registered as a political party with the Commission.
