Question : DIRECT FERTILIZER SUBSIDY TO FARMERS



(a) whther the Government had announced to provide fetilizer subsidy directly to the farmers;

(b) if so, whether the said scheme has been implemented so far;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) the amount of subsidy provided to the farmers in the country under the scheme so far; and

(e) the anmes and details kof States which got the bebefit of the said scheme ?

(a): The Government has implemented Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) policy for decontrolled P & K fertilizers w.e.f. 1st April, 2010 in the first phase of NBS. NBS is being released through the fertilizer manufacturers/importers. In the second phase of NBS, it is prposed to move towards relase of NBS to farmrs at retail point. Urea is also proposed to be decontrolled in the second phase. However, the same will be brought for decision of the competent authority after establishment of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) linkage of retail chain with the respective fertilizer companies and banks.
