Question : ASH MANAGEMENT IN POWER PLANTS



(a) whether the Government is aware that ash management has become most acute problem in the power plants in the country including Maharashtra belonging both to the public and private sector;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the concrete steps being taken/ proposed to be taken by the Government to overcome this serious problem?

(a) & (b) : As per data available in the Central Electricity Authority for the year 2013-14, the total ash generation in the country was 172.87 Million Tonnes and utilization was 99.62 Million Tonnes (57.63%). Out of this, for the State of Maharashtra, the total ash generation was 16.38 Million Tonnes and ash utilization was 10.05 Million Tonnes (61.35%) during the aforesaid period i.e. 2013-14.

(c) : A Monitoring Committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment & Forests in pursuance of Para 6 of fly Ash utilization amendment notification dated 3rd November, 2009 for implementation of the provision of notification.
