Question : QUALITY OF HIGHER EDUCATION



(a) whether according to a study 64 per cent engineers and 80 per cent MBA students studing in technology/engineering/management institutions of the country are lacking knowledge of their subject and hence have been found ineligible for suitable employment in the country ;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto; and

(c) the details of steps taken by the Government for improving the quality of education of these institutions?

(a) & (b):The Ministry of Human Resource Development has not conducted any such study in this regard.

(c): The quality in All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved technical institutions is monitored through norms and standards laid down in the AICTE’s Approval Process Handbook. Further, the AICTE supports the quality initiative through various schemes of quality improvement such as Research Promotion Scheme, Modernization and Removal of Obsolescence, Faculty Development Programme, Seminar Grant, Quality Improvement Programme, Post Graduate Scholarship, Career Award for Young Teachers, Travel Grants and Emeritus Fellowship etc. Apart from this, the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) accredits the programmes and courses of technical institutions for quality assurance.
