Question : IDENTIFYING MONUMENTS



(a) whether the Government / Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has identified various monuments in Bijapur district of Karnataka;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether there is any proposal to amend the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment and Validation) Act, 2010 to provide compensation to the people living in the close vicinity of protected monuments;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the action taken to rehabilitate the people who lost their land?

(a)&(b) There are 82 monuments/sites which have been declared as of national importance under the jurisdiction of Archaeological Survey of India in BijapurDistirct of Karnataka. The detailed list is at Annexure.

(c) No, Madam.

(d) Does not arise.

(e) There is no such policy with the Archaeological Survey of India to rehabilitate/relocate the encroachers of the centrally protected monuments.
