(a) the freight and passengers traffic targets fixed by the Railways during 2004-05 and the
extent to which these have been achieved;
(b) whether the Railways is suffering huge loss due to corruption prevailing in the
loading/parcel load Centres ; and
(c) if so, the steps taken by the Government to overcome the situation ?

(a) The revenue freight loading target for the year 2004-05 has been fixed as under:

Target Proportionate Actual upto +/- over 2004-05 Target upto January, 05 Target January, 05 580 (now 485 491.76 6.76 revised to 600) (Provisional)
Also, during April, 04 to January, 05, on Indian Railways 4597 millions of passengers were booked which is 6.32 % higher than the corresponding period of previous year as compared to the target of 5.47 % for the whole year 2004-05.
