Question : DOORSTEP VETERINARY SERVICES



(a) whether the Union Government is providing round the clock and doorstep veterinary service under the National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding programme to the farmers for development of dairy in the country including Kerala;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the funds allocated to promote such service in the country during the last three years, state-wise?

(a) to (c): Yes, Madam. Union Government is implementing a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, namely, National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding since October, 2000. One of the objectives of this scheme is arranging delivery of vastly improved artificial insemination services at the farmers` doorstep. The project envisages genetic upgradation of bovine population and productivity enhancement on priority basis for development of dairy sector in the country. Since inception of the scheme 30,300 stationary AI Centres have been converted into mobile AI Centres have been converted into mobile AI Centres and 14,500 private AI Centres have been established for providing breeding inputs at the farmers` doorstep. Kerala is participating under the scheme since 2001-02 and central assistance to the tune of Rs. 3942.87 lakh has been released to the State including Rs. 862.73 lakh released during 2009-10. Details of the funds released state-wise and year-wise during last three years is at annexure.
