Question : Projects at Vizhinjam Port

(a) whether the Government has granted permission for the construction of a green field deep water International Container Trans-shipment Terminal (ICTT) at Vizhinjam;
(b) if so, the details and the present status thereof;
(c) whether the Government proposes to relax the taxes under Cabotage for operation of the ICTT; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a)to(d):No, Madam. Does not arise. However, it is learnt that the Ministry of Finance has accorded in-principle approval on 3.2.2015 for viability gap funding to the proposal of Government of Kerala to develop a non-major Port at Vizhinjam on Design Build Finance Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis to handle upto 18000 TEU container ships with a rated annual capacity of the Port of 10 lakhs TEUs and the total project cost Rs. 3930 crores.
