Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE ???? ??? ????? ??????? ??????

(SHRI NARENDRA SINGH TOMAR)

(a) For an agriculture year (July-June), the 1st advance estimates (kharif only) is released in the month of September. Hence, it is too early to estimate kharif production of foodgrains for current year 2022-23. However, as per the 3rd advance estimates, 2021-22 the kharif foodgrains production is estimated at 154.93 million tonnes.
(b) to (d) During 2021-22, as per 3rd advance estimates, the estimated production of coarse cereals, pulses and oilseeds is more than Average production of last 5 years (i.e. 2016-17 to 2020-21) as given in the table below:

(Production in Million Tonnes)
Crops 2021-22
(3rd Advance Estimates) Average
(2016-17 to 2020-21)
Coarse Cereals 50.70 46.57
Pulses 27.75 23.82
Oilseeds 38.50 32.68

(e) Government has taken various measures from time to time to control the rise in food prices which, inter-alia, include appropriately utilizing trade and fiscal policy instruments like import duty, export restrictions, etc. to regulate domestic availability and moderate prices; advising States for effective action against hoarders and black marketers ; and, provision of higher Minimum Support Prices to incentivize farmers for increasing production. Government is also implementing Schemes which, inter alia, include National Food Security Mission (NFSM), National Mission on Oilseeds and Oil Palm (NMOOP), etc. for increasing agricultural production and productivity through appropriate interventions.
