Question : Hostels for Tribal Boys and Girls

(a) the number of hostels for tribal boys and girls students in the country at present separately, State-wise;
(b) the norms set up for providing financial assistance for the construction of said hostels;
(c) whether the Government has received any proposals for the construction of said hostels for Scheduled Tribe Boys and Girls during the last three years;
(d) if so, the details thereof State/UT wise including Gujarat and Kerala; and
(e) the action taken by the Government on each of the said proposal along with the details of the funds sanctioned, released and utilized by the States/UTs?

(a) The State/UT-wise details of the number of Hostel for the tribal students sanctioned by the Ministry under the erstwhile Scheme of “Hostels for ST Girls and Boys” are at Annexure I.
(b) The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is, inter alia, implementing Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub Scheme (SCA to TSS) and Grants under Article 275(1) of the Constitution for the development of Scheduled Tribes. The programmes and schemes of the Ministry are intended to support and supplement the efforts of other Central Ministries and the State Governments by way of various developmental projects. Projects for setting up hostels for ST Boys and Girls are taken up for funding accordingly.
(c) to (e): The proposals received from the State Governments for construction of Boys and Girls Hostels are appraised by the Project Approval Committee in the Ministry for funding. The state-wise details of funds released to the State Governments under the scheme of SCA to TSS and Grants under Article 275(1) during last three years for activities related to Hostels is given at
Annexure – II.
