Question : LOANS FOR INTEGRATED DISEASE INSPECTION PROJECT



(a) whether the World Bank has offered to provide loan to India for integrated Disease Inspection Project;

(b) if so, the amount of loan and the names of the diseases for which the loan has been sanctioned;

(c) whether the Government proposes to set up a Central Disease Inspection Unit; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) Yes, Sir. A soft credit of US$ 68 million has been offered by International Development Association of the World Bank for Integrated Disease Surveillance Project proposed to be implemented during 2004-2009. The Project would undertake surveillance for Malaria, Typhoid, Cholera, Polio, Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, Measles, Plague and other unusual syndromes. The Project would also cover road traffic accidents, water and air quality and risk factors for non-communicable diseases including heart diseases, diabetes, cancers.

(c) & (d) The Project would be monitored by Central Disease Surveillance Committee and implemented by Central Disease Surveillance Unit under the Department of Health.
