Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF CIVIL AVIATION (SHRI SHARAD YADAV)

(a), (b) & (c):- The basic infrastructural facilities are available at the operational airports. The level of these facilities varies depending upon the traffic potential and type of aircraft operations expected at a particular airport. Upgradation of such facilities is a continuing process keeping in view the traffic potential, availability of resources and economic viability of such investments. In the Ninth Five Year Plan an amount of Rs. 3421.87 crores approximately has been allocated by the Airports Authority of India(AAI) for this purpose. Policy on Airport Infrastructure also aims at encouraging private sector participation in upgradation of airport infrastructure. It has also been decided to lease out airports of AAI on long term basis as and when found suitable. At present, airports at Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Calcutta are being taken up for this exercise to improve efficiency and standard of facilities and services to international standards.
