Question : ATOMIC POWER PLANT IN JHARKHAND



(a) whether Jharkhand has sufficient uranium reserves to run a Atomic Power Plant;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to set up Atomic Power Plant in Jharkhand;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the time by which Atomic Power Plant in Jharkhand is likely to be set up?

(a) & (b) The Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), a constituent Unit under this Department has so far established about 47,809 tonnes of in-situ uranium (U3O8) in the state of Jharkhand.

(c) There is no proposal currently under the consideration of the Government. However, the Site Selection Committee (SSC) of this Department had evaluated sites offered by the State Government. No suitable site could be established.

(d) & (e) Does not arise in view of (c) above.
