(a) whether on the basis of the recommendations of a committee, the Government has identified certain temples/pilgrim centres for development of infrastructural facilities.

STATEMENT IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.201 TO BE ANSERED ON 9.3.2000 REGARDING DEVELOPMENT OF TEMPLES AS TOURIST SPOTS.

(a) On the recommendations of a Committee constituted in the year 1992 by the Ministry of Tourism, certain pilgrim centres were identified for development of tourist infrastructural facilities.

(b) A list of identified pilgrim centres is at Annexure.

(c) Ministry of Tourism sanctioned projects amounting to Rs.2407.94 lakhs from 1992 onwards for the development of tourist infrastructure at various pilgrim centres in the country including those mentioned in the annexure.


LIST OF IDENTIFIED PILGRIM CENTRES

Nineteen Pilgrim Centres in 12 States and 2 Circuits in UP have been identified for development.
