Question : Setting up of Nuclear Power Plants

(a)whether decision has been taken by the Government to set up nuclear powerplants in Nawada district of Bihar and Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand;

(b)if so, the present status of the nuclear power plant in the above States;

(c)whether the Government has fixed or proposes to fix any time limit for completion of the said power plants; and

(d)if so, the details thereof?

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES & PENSIONS AND PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE (DR.JITENDRA SINGH):

(a)&(b)No, Sir. A site at Rajauli in Nawada district of Bihar was offered by the
Government of Bihar for locating a nuclear power plant. However, the Site
Selection Committee of Government, during its evaluation stage has found that the required quantity of cooling water is not available. The site was,
therefore, not recommended by the Site Selection Committee. In respect of Jharkhand, the state government has not offered any sites in Hazaribagh district.

(c)&(d)Do not arise in view of above.
