Question : Promotion of Occupational Therapy

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to promote Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy in the country;

(b) whether the Government proposes to implement the Seventh Pay Commission report to Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists;

(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(d) whether the Government proposes to establish a National Council for Occupational Therapy; and

(e) if so, the details and salient features thereof along with the time by which the said Council is likely to be set up?

(a): A handbook of Model Curriculum for Physiotherapy has been prepared and uploaded on the website of the Ministry. It has also been sent to all States/UTs for adoption.

(b) & (c): 7th CPC recommendations have been implemented for employees of Central Government offices in so far as pay scales are concerned.

(d) & (e): No separate Central Council for Occupational Therapy is under consideration yet.
