Question : FORMULATION OF STANDARDS



(a) whether the Government is considering to formulate new standards on garbage segregation to complement the Swachh Bharat Mission;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has entrusted the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to formulate quality assurance and process standards for potable water supplied through pipelines by municipal and Government agencies, the street food and garbage disposal and if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government proposes to set up a dedicated group to see that these standards are implemented effec- tively and if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the other steps taken by the Government for time-bound rollout of the plan for formulation and enforcement of these standards?

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD AND PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION (SHRI RAOSAHEB PATIL DANVE)

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is considering developing standards on municipal solid wastes including garbage segregation. A technical committee has been constituted to develop such standards.

(c): Yes, Madam. Government has entrusted BIS to formulate process standard for quality assurance of potable water supplied through pipelines by municipal and Government agencies and for garbage disposal.

BIS has already established Indian Standard, IS 16066: 2012 on Street Food VendorsFood Safety requirements.

(d): An Inter-Ministerial Group has been set up on Consumer Advocacy which will also oversee implementation of standards.

(e): The standards proposed are to be formulated and implemented as per the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986
